AÇAÍ STORY
Açaí (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is a small, dark purple berry that grows high in the palm trees of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. For centuries, it has been a vital part of the diet and culture of Indigenous communities in the region. Traditionally, the berries were hand-harvested, soaked in water to soften the skin, and then mashed into a thick, dark purple pulp. This pulp became a staple food, often served with fish or cassava, providing essential energy in the tropical climate.
Over time, açaí evolved from a local treasure into a national favourite across Brazil. It’s more than just food — it’s a lifestyle. In coastal cities like Rio and Belém, people enjoy it chilled and topped with banana, granola, or condensed milk. Whether after a surf session, a workout, or just a hot day, açaí is the go-to treat, offering refreshment, nutrition, and a moment to relax and recharge.
The global rise of açaí came with the recognition of its impressive health benefits. Packed with antioxidants, fibre, and healthy fats, açaí is known for supporting energy, digestion, and heart health. Unlike most fruits, it’s low in sugar and rich in omega-9 and omega-6 fatty acids. It’s no wonder it gained superfood status around the world.
At Purple Vibes, we stay true to the roots of this amazing fruit. Our açaí is organic and authentically Brazilian — thick, rich, and served the traditional way, without fillers or artificial blends. We prepare it the same way it’s done in Brazil: scoopable and bold in flavour, ready to be enjoyed on its own or with your favourite toppings.
By bringing açaí to New Zealand, we’re not just introducing a new taste — we’re sharing a part of our culture, our history, and something we truly love. Come try it for yourself and feel the purple energy!
